The best approach to creating a technology use policy is to do the hard work, speak to your IT manager and lawyer and staff, make the hard decisions and move to drafting the policy at the point that you are ready to document your decisions.

The attached sample policy for internet and email use can serve as a model or as a checklist, but should not be anything more than that.

Do not slavishly follow it if it does not reflect your culture or systems.

It will need to tie in to your Employee Manual and adapt as technology changes.

Like any policy, it should be introduced to existing staff and  incorporated in training programs and induction for new employees.
